Neighborhood Meeting
January 16, 2007
7PM @ Imani Church

1. Welcome and agenda items: T. Surinak
2. BSO: Lt. Canada, Deputy Dodge, and M. Alvarez
a. Anonymous reporting-if you call 9-1-1, you will be identified; if you call the non-emergency number (954) 765-4321, you can remain anonymous-there is no caller identification. BSO recommends calling 9-1-1, to give them more information and prompt attention to a crime or suspicious activity.
b. BSO recommends street lights for TLS to deter crime
c. BSO recommends contacting Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) to report underage sales of cigarettes, etc. at area convenience stores.
d. BSO reminds attendees to refrain from leaving personal valuables in cars. There?’s been a rash of ?“smash and grabs?” resulting in stealing of purses and wallets, leading to identity theft.
e. Neighbors informed BSO of suspicious juvenile activity in the neighborhood and Royal Palm Park. D. Dodge will increase bike patrol of TLS.
f. Chief John Bukata has recently been installed as the Chief of District 12-Oakland Park, replacing Chief Rahinsky. Lt. Canada and Chief Bukata have met with neighbors to discuss TLS concerns. He is increasing patrol of the neighborhood and Royal Palm Park, as well as social services for homelessness.
3. Royal Palm Park Connection: T. Surinak
a. As part of the TLS Annexation Agreement with Oakland Park, a walkway connection from NW 16th Ave and NW 41st St. to Royal Palm Park is supposed to be erected by March 2007. Unfortunately, the engineering and construction department has encountered unforeseen problems and the project completion date is uncertain. Neighbors have requested a locking gate, to remain closed when the park is closed.
4. Lights: J. Rodrick and D. Morris
a. Various lighting options have been provided by Oakland Park. D. Morris would like to explore other options, including light pole design and solar power. b. Oakland Park has offered to assist with a mailing to inform and/or survey the TLS regarding lighting options
c. J. Rodrick and D. Morris will decide on committee meeting dates and times and post on the website.
5. Broward Beautiful Grant: T. Surinak
a. Dates need to be coordinated for the installation of the water meter, tree removal, irrigation, purchase of the plants, and plant installation.
b. Ernie Halleland is the signatory, who will purchase the plants and be reimbursed at the completion of the project.
c. The project must be implemented by August 2007 and completed by August 2008.
6. Volunteer Program: T. Surinak
a. Interested neighbors need to complete IS-100 and IS-700.
7. Suggested agenda items for next neighborhood meeting, February 20, 2007 at 7PM at Imani Church:

e. Guest speaker (Oakland Park Commissioner or City Clerk) to explain the Oakland Park election process
