WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3 2007

Fairfax City manager Robert Sisson said the city will adopt voluntary restrictions on water usage effective Friday, Oct. 5, at 8 a.m.

The reason for the measure is that the city's primary water supply, the Goose Creek Reservoir in Loudoun County, is below 30 percent capacity, Sissons said, speaking by phone from his office on Wednesday afternoon.

City residents are being asked to stop watering lawns and shrubs and cease all other types of irrigation. The city is asking that residents refrain from washing cars and find other ways of conserving water.

Because this is a voluntary request, the city will not issue and tickets for noncompliance, Sisson said.

As of April 7, 2008, the City of Farifax's water restrictions have been lifted.  Phew!

But remember - stay vigilant for leaking toilets, the biggest source of wasted water in homes.  And shut off the water while brushing your teeth.  And try a Navy Shower.
