Dear Trails South Board Members,
I have owned a home in The Trails South Addition for several years now. For the most part, it has been a nice and peaceful place to live and raise children. Recently, however, it seems to have shifted to a very annoying environment. I live next to the big park and on most days there are several youths playing basketball. The problem is that they constantly yell obscene words and racial slurs. They also leave trash in the park which I have picked up myself. They throw the trash can lids around like frisbees. From what I've seen, most of them don't even reside in Trails
South. This may explain their disrespect for our property and our peace.
Because of this, I don't like to be outside in my own front yard or let my children play in the park and, to me, that is an unacceptable condition to live under. I should be able to enjoy where I live. I have refrained from calling the police. I believe they have much more important things to take care of. I have considered moving to another neighborhood but I've worked hard to make this my home. I have talked to two neighbors and they agree that the basketball games are very disruptive.
I recall a brief time not long ago when there wasn't a basketball goal. I noticed many people were visiting the park and enjoying a peaceful day. These were people that I rarely see at the park. I strongly believe that our neighbors shy away from our park because of this raucous behavior.
I am asking you to consider removing the basketball goal to see if our quality of life improves. I'm willing to bet that if you ask all neighbors within ear shot of the park, they would want the same.
