Meeting Minutes
9/21/06

Next Meeting: A POTLUCK on Thursday, October 19 at 7:00 pm in Helga?’s garden if the weather is good. Helga lives at 112 East Ormsby. Bring dinner types of foods
7:01 pm, meeting called to order by President K.Kouba

Helga: Treasurer?’s Report: $2800 +/- in treasure

Property Improvement Committee: Reported by a variety of reporters

The idea of the sound barriers along I65 as it goes past Old Louisville was presented and the group liked the idea. Larry Owsley, VP of Facilities at UofL, was very interested. A resolution was made to take the idea to the Neighborhood Council. An e-mail campaign might be organized in support. It was strongly urged that efforts are exerted to get the Old Louisville Chamber of Commerce behind this.

Tyler Allen will be at next Toonerville meeting?—he?’s the fellow with the idea of developing the interstate on the Indiana side rather than doing further damage to the waterfront with coming plans.

The Central Park Master Plan, under development for 12 years, has finally come up with a plan that has support of Metro Parks and the Olmstead Conservancy. Next Tuesday the plan will be unveiled.

Don Driskell said congrats to Helga who received the Good Neighbor Award from Mayor Abramson for her work with District 6.

There is a discussion of which streets we want to see go to 2-way traffic. Ken Plotnick, Nancy Woodcock and Don Driskell are working on this. It is suggested that 1st and Brook two-way which should add to safety of those streets and preserve the historic district.

Crime & Safety-Helga Ulrich
Doug Hamilton of Metro Safe was invited to the Crime & Safety Committee to discuss 911 and the non emergency 574-7111. Helga is logging in any problems that are reported to her with either. Several have expressed concerns that nobody seems to be answering 574-7111 and she pointed this out to Metro Government which seemed to yawn over the whole issue. Helga urges anyone who encounters a problem with these two phone numbers (answering them, attitude when answered and response time on issue related to the call)?—please call her so she can long these in and have some documentation the next time she speaks to Hamilton, the Council or the Mayor about these concerns. Another related issue is that the dispatchers do not seem that familiar with the laws which would be of concern to Old Louisville.

There are Police Walks on Wednesdays starting at 6:00 pm, lasting one hour. It usually involves 10 officers who walk the streets with the citizens, going from door to door. The purpose is to meet the citizens and let them know that the police care.

Street robberies?—we are still having these?…about 6 per month, and half are in the day time. Burglaries are happening primarily in apartments.

Don reported that there are two grants in the process. One would provide 2 full time police on bikes to ride this neighborhood?—this seems likely of getting funding. The second is a bit less likely?—funds for 2 police on horseback for the neighborhood.

Michael Baugh, the housing violation inspector/enforcer, is going to Dixie Highway! None saw this as good news because Michael has been so good at following through on complaints. This is his call because of a desire to be closer to his own neighborhood. Three different people will have part of his beat. We really hate to see him go!! There will be a reception for the 3 new folks.

If there are satellite dishes installed in the front or sides of the house, please let Don Driskell know.

When you see a newly vacated building, look and see how many gas meters there are and call the Central Park Info Center to let them know when you first noticed it vacant. This establishes a record of vacant properties and helps hold the line on renovation of properties with high density units?—it reverts to single family status after one year of being vacant.

Next Meeting: A Potluck on Thursday, October 19 at 7:00 pm in Helga?’s garden if the weather is good. Helga lives at 112 East Ormsby. Bring dinner types of foods.

In November, a slate of officers will be presented. If you have interest in running, please let President Kouba know by/at the October meeting?—636-2544 bearwood@bellsouth.net
