TOONERVILLE TROLLEY NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
MEETING MINUTES 4/20/06
St Philip Chapel

Next Meeting is May 18 at 7:00 pm at St Philip Chapel.

Kevin Kouba, President, called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm

The minutes were approved as presented.

501(c)3 Progress?—We are waiting until we get the Secretary of State reporting straightened out. The original officers (at the time of filing) must ask for the status to be placed on the active list and then file the appropriate paperwork. Phil will get Dale and Chris Hart to do this before the next meeting.

Where are we in filing the tax returns?—should be at least two years behind? We will try to straighten this out as well. Kevin will talk to Helga Ulrich about doing research on who would file this without charge.

Adopt-A-Park?—Jo Ann reported that three persons have signed on to adopt Toonerville Park and Brightside is completing the required paperwork. Attached are forms for anyone else who is interested to fill in and submit.

This Saturday, April 22, beginning at 8:30 am at St. Philip Chapel the neighborhood cleanup will begin?—all workers welcomed. Bring your own gloves, tools and garbage bags. We will also try to get Brightside bags.

The motion was made, seconded and approved to provide $50 to help fund some of the expenses for the clean up of Central Park which was done a few days ago.

New Business:

Officer Barry Aden was present and informed the group that the Irish Travelers are back in town. This home improvement scamming group appears with battered trucks to pressure elderly home owners and others into letting them fix a drive or a roof and then jack the price up again and again. He warned to check with the police when such a group shows up without your asking for a bid or a repair. Do not let any of them go in your house.

He also warned that now, with yard work beginning, to always lock your house when you were out of sight of the door. It is too easy for someone who is watching to slip in and ?“clean you out.?”

Be sure to take everything of value out of the car or at least put it in the trunk out of sight.

Several of the TTNA members indicated that, with Derby approaching, the on the street solicitation for prostitution is also picking up.

With the concerns that most have about reported closing of area fire stations, Kevin reported that he had received a letter from Herb Fink asking if TTNA would help provide funding for TV ads asking the Mayor not to close our firehouses.

The motion was made, seconded and approved to ask Kevin to check with Herb for more details and then get back with the Board (officers) to see if it made sense to do so. He was approved to provide up to $200 if the board agreed to do so.

Don Driskell gave an overview of what the issue really is: Metro Louisville paid a consulting firm a substantial amount to do an analysis of fire/emergency services (and perhaps other things. The report is hundreds of pages long. In it, the group recommended the closing of the 4 Old Louisville firehouses and the building of 2 new ones to cover the area. The problem is that with 3 story buildings this close together, one fire team arrives and must be backed up by a second in order to fight such a fire. Then, if search and rescue in the building must take place, a 3rd team/truck is required?…So, where does this come from if the two Old Louisville trucks are already involved? So, this lengthens the response time. With four present Old Louisville companies, this is not an issue. No one in Old Louisville is unhappy with the present situation.

Again it was suggested that members and friends of Toonerville write/call/email Mayor Abramson, the Fire Chief Frederick, Alderman George Unseld and MetroCall expressing our desire to keep the four companies in Old Louisville. They can all be written at Louisville Metro Hall, 527 W Jefferson St, 40202

Message from Jo Ann Macy
If you are interested in helping with the Adopt-A-Park efforts in
Toonerville Trolley Park, please fill out the attached metro forms
(volunteer and workers comp) and bring them to the TTNA meeting on Thursday.
City rules dictate that the forms must be filled out and submitted prior to working in the park. If you have children, sign them up too!

You do not have to be a member of the Toonerville Trolley Neighborhood
Association (or any other neighborhood association) to participate. You just need the desire to make your neighborhood park more attractive.

Don't want to work in the park, but have plants that you would like to
donate to the effort? Great! Just let me know and we can work out the
details.

I will collect the forms at the meeting and mail them all into Shane Stuber. If you can't make the meeting, e-mail me thejoes@alltel.net and I will come and pick-up your forms.
