Officer Dawn indicated that after the N.E.A.T. cleanup if there is any problem with residual trash being left curbside to call her on her cell phone 690-4345 and she would address the problem. Judy indicated that people will be meeting at the Civic center prior to the cleanup and that anyone who wanted to donate prepared foods for the workers should bring them by the center as soon as possible.

NEIGHBORHOOD CRIME INFORMATION: Community Officer Gene King and Officer Dawn were present at the meeting to update members of criminal activity within the Temple Crest area. Officer King stated that they had been concentrating on burglaries, which have taken place and most recently at 39th street and Seward and indicated the items that were stolen. If you see someone in a mink stole it may be a part of the stolen goods. Various members discussed concerns over criminal activity in their respective neighborhoods and Officer King informed members that the police officers cannot be everywhere and that citizens must make the police aware of any suspected criminal activity. He indicated that with regard to drug activity in the neighborhood that this had been turned over to the various departments within the City of Tampa Police Department that handle drug or vice activity. He indicated that he has been setting up radar and has been catching speeders along Lakeshore Drive. Officer King indicated that Carl DeRoche as head of Terrace Park Crime Watch along with its members are having a picnic on Sunday, August 25, 2002 at Tacoma Park from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and that we could attend this function. Judy inquired to Officer King whether he would be available for the Crime Watch Meeting in September and he indicated that he would not be available that month and that she would have to contact the B Cycle officer to attend that meeting. Officer King indicated that Johnny Compton who holds the position as head of the Neighborhood Crime Watch for Temple Crest was involved in an incident involving police officers; therefore the City has asked Mr. Compton to temporarily step down as head of the Crime Watch until the police incident matter is resolved. He indicated that Mr. Compton has been active while on temporary leave as a private citizen and that hopefully this police incident will be resolved by the next meeting so that Mr. Compton can resume his position as Crime Watch leader.

GARAGE SALES – A question regarding frequency and duration of Garage Sales was posed by Jean Johnson to Officer Dawn. Officer Dawn indicated that residents can only have two garage sales and month and that they may not last for more than a period of three days each time. It was brought up that there was a residence located behind CVS pharmacy that appears to be having a garage sale every weekend and that it detracts and reflects poorily on the neighborhood and the new businesses that have located to that area (Pizza Hut and CVS Pharmacy). Officer Dawn took down the address and stated she would check into this matter. Officer Dawn discussed with members the proper licensing procedures and locations for individuals who are setting up road-side markets or garage sales in the area.

TEMPE CREST CIVIC ASSOCIATION FUNDS - It was brought up by the Treasurer that state law requires that three Trustee’s are needed to oversee the operating monies of the Temple Crest Civic Association and that these individuals could not hold the position as officers of the Temple Crest Civic Association. Fred Hoffman, Vince Wallace and Sarah Smith volunteered to be trustee’s.
