Tanglewood Residents' Association

President's Letter for November

NOVEMBER LETTER

In October, Carlos and I met with a man who was wanting to rezone his property, on Melissa Ann, to multy-family.  We had asked him to send TRA a letter and it would be brought up at the meeting.  He was given a week and a half and we wanted to know more of his plans.  A letter was never sent and we voted a majority "no".  I sent a letter to the Councilman's Office, where I was directed, stating how we felt.  I will send a letter to the Zoning Commission as well.  A letter to the church was sent also.

I will be buying paint this week so email me if you are still interested in helping with this.  It shouldn't take more than a couple hours   sjar1072@gmail.com .  We are also looking for volunteers to fix the lights on both of the signs as well.

Cindy is heading a small group to buy Christmas Decor for the signs.  tratimes04@yahoo.com is her email if interested.

Matt Smock is working hard to revive the Block Captain program. msmock66@yahoo.com is his email if interested.

At our last meeting a couple things came up...

We still are having problems with the vacant land running behind Club Oaks.  I have sent a second letter to the Mayor.  The first was sent last June by a resident on Club Oaks.  Collectively, we have approached the Mayor, City Council, and SAPD repatedly the last year.  If there are other residents having problems, let me know.  If you would like to send your concerns elsewhere that is fine also... sarah.mclornan@sanantonio.gov is a contact for the Mayor,  jill.deyoung@sanantonio.gov is a contact for the councilman.  Our SAFFEE officer is Alonzo who's # is 207-5825.  Unfortunately there isn't a magic cure for this problem, so we will need to keep pressing forward.

It was determined at the meeting, that if we can get enough volunteers, we will fix the wall ourselves.  We are looking at mid-September to start.  If interested, email me at sjar1021@gmail.com

I would like to thank Carlos for taking on the huge task of trying to have the Springtime entrance repaired.  He has not only worked on getting bids, but has worked on filings, sending letters to responsible parties, and working with an attorney that is helping us.  Carlos has also been taking chunks of the wall to clean up the flagstone rock.  He has cleaned up 2 pallets worth to date.

I would also like to thank Bill DeValcourt for taking on the Autumnvista entrance.  Bill has been working with the city trying to make sure our sign is in compliance in several areas.  He has also been holding the City accountable for items they had promised, ie landscaping.

Our website is doing well with an average of 1100 visits a month.  It may not be flashy but serves our purposes.  We are always open to ideas concerning the neighborhood.  They can be shared at either tratimes04@yahoo.com or sjar1021@gmail.com .

Since the start of the year we have tried to figure ways to increase membership, always asking for input.  We have done a special on this website to where if you joined between June and the end of August, your membership will carry to Dec. 2013.  I have personally mailed out 30 invitations to non-members.  Although this invite has included my email, I have yet to receive any responses.  We are still asking for ideas and members, as TRA shrinks every year.  This makes it hard to try and do anything neighborhood related, let alone entrance repairs.

TRA needs you to survive into the future, whether it through volunteers, membership, ideas, or donations.

Thank you,

Steve,  sjar1021@gmail.com

At recent meetings, we have been asking for ideas,on what to do with the Springtime entrance.

Should we just rebuild the area damaged?

Should we go ahead with repairs, even though we are still in the process of trying to get compensated for the damage?

Should we use the same stone or change to something different?

What would you the resident's of Tanglewood like to say or do?  It is your wall too, and yet we haven't had any input.  Email me with your ideas, my email will be below.

There will be a brush pick-up sometime in August.  This is a good time to get trees trimmed, remove bushes, etc.  PLEASE wait for your doorhanger.  It will give you the dates and also if it is JUST brush or if bags will be allowed also.

Very few people wake up in the morning and say,
“Today I’m going to waste some water.” Most water wasters simply don’t
know the rules.

By reporting water waste, you’re actually helping SAWS educate your
neighbors and the community about what is and isn’t allowed in a friendly,
non-threatening way. Go to www.saws.org for
more information.

HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT NEW...

How is that new 50 inch TV, new computer/laptop, or new audio equipment?  I saw the box in your trash so I thought I would ask.  Chances are if I saw it, so did someone with bad intentions.  There were 51 calls for service(police calls) in February, 13 of those were for theft or burglary and 30 for miscellaneous.  Take the time to cut up, chop, or rip apart the packaging so it FITS in whichever container you decide to use.

Be aware of your street.  Whether you are doing yardwork or taking a walk, acknowledge (say hi,hello, hey) the people you see around.  A step toward discouraging a burglar is letting them know they are being watched.  When going out of town, maybe give a phone number to a neighbor, have them check your house or collect your mail.

Stage 2 water restrictions may be coming early, please visit www.saws.org for your watering day.
