OPTIONS FOR YOUR FALL LEAVES

Wondering what to do with all those fall leaves?

Below are several good options for what to do with your fall leaves, especially if you want to recycle your yard waste. Though Fort Collins does not operate a municipal yard waste drop-off site, there are several privately operated drop-off locations for yard waste and leaves.

Leaf Exchange Program

The city sponsors a community leaf-exchange program, which allows you to either give your leaves away, or get leaves for composting or mulching.

The City Natural Resources Department sponsors this leaf-exchange program, which operates year-round (though keep in mind that most exchange activity occurs in the Fall). Through the program you can locate additional leaves for mulching or composting in your yard or garden, or locate recycling options for your leaves (and avoid extra charges on your trash bill).

One privately operated drop-off location is:

• Hageman Earth Cycle - 3501 E Prospect Rd, Fort Collins (970) 221-7173. Operates all year. Accepts leaves, grass clippings, branches, and garden debris. Small fee charged. Hours: Monday - Friday, 730am-500pm; Saturday, 800am-400pm.

For a complete list of leaf drop-off locations and how-to information on composting, see links at bottom of page.

Curbside Recycling of Leaves and Yard Waste

Gallegos Sanitation offers a curbside recycling option for your leaves and other yard waste. Did you know that yardwaste currently makes up around 13% of the local waste stream going into the landfill? Gallgeos remains the only local company to recognize the difference we can make to support local and statewide recycling efforts by providing a service that really makes it simple to recycle.

How Does the Program Work?
The program is just as simple as your trash collection service with much more benefit. GSI supplies you with a specially designed 65-gallon yard waste container along with an instruction guide listing the materials to include for yardwaste pickup.

Of course, you could also reach out to your Taft Canyon neighbors via our neighborhood website to see if someone nearby is interested in an exchange.
