Property Crimes

Posted in: Sullivans Gulch
I am starting this message because I just had a nice bike that I used to commute to work stolen from my garage. I have only lived here for about a year and we have felt fairly secure here. We did lose a planter from our porch a few months ago, which we could overlook as a crime of ignorance. But now we are starting to feel less trust for our passing neighbors, and we don't like this uneasiness. Do you worry about the things on your property that are visible to others? We feel that the bike was taken while our garage was unlocked briefly to move some things. If you see a turquoise/aqua colored bike, Ross Mt. Washington, please let me know (very few around), and I am paying a finder's reward of $50. Also, how about posting your own experiences if something like this has happened to you? Maybe we can find a pattern. I live near 24th and Clackamas.

Property Crimes

I feel relatively safe here, but am always aware that we are in an inner-city area. I think it's important to be aware always of having things locked up and secure. We do have lots of people pass through our neighborhood on the way to other places, and a fair population of street people. It's unfortunate, but true, that some people will take whatever they want if it's not locked up.

Sorry about your bike. I had one stolen years ago, and still remember how difficult that made my life -- at the time, it was my only means of transportation. It was also in a garage, but obviously not locked up securely. That was in Eugene.
