VOTERS CONTROLLING GROWTH?

Sep 12, 2000

This November, registered voters will have an opportunity to vote on Amendment 24, otherwise known as the Responsible Growth Initiative. This initiative seeks to remove community growth and development control from government and put it in the hands of the voting public. Proponents of this initiative shocked government officials by submitting a petition with over 90,000 signatures, approximately 30,000 more than needed, suggesting a grass roots groundswell of support by a public frustrated with poor governmental growth control. This measure is opposed by government, realtors, and the developer/construction community which has contributed over 1.2 million dollars to oppose this effort.
This is a complex issue which requires some research in order for you to make an informed decision. In addition, Mike Huminez, C/S Chamber or Commerce Board Member, is slated to speak at the September 14 SHNA meeting to discuss the Chamber of Commerce's opposition to this amendment. A proponent speaker is being sought. Your SHNA recommends you look closely at this issue, as it will have a dramatic impact on all property owners.
