Our community?’s primary path to Hwy 90 and I10 is along Main St, Belle Fountaine Rd, Hamil Rd, Old Spanish Trail, and Old 57th Rd. Last night a petition started to circulate to persuade CSX to repair the crossing at Old 57th Rd north of the Fountaine Bleau Community Center and remove obstructions that prevent reasonable viewing of trains on the northern approach to the railroad.

Also we learned in 2 to 3 years the county will build the extension of Belle Fountaine Rd probably as a three lane road unless federal funds make earlier construction possible. In any case, the extension will speed our access to Highway 90 and I10 and favorably affect property values, safety, and emergency vehicle response. Without the extension, our speed of access to Highway 90 and I10 will only slow as population in our area increases and traffic bottlenecks increase at the Applewhite turn on Belle Fountaine Rd and the three-way stops on Hamil Farm Rd.

Once these two improvements are completed, the quality of living in the Fountainebleau area will be significantly improved.

Scheduled Crossing Improvements

CSX Railroad has informed me that there are plans to close the Hwy 57 railroad crossing on September 7 and it will remained closed until September 10, 2004. Their plans are to completely tear out the existing tracks and rebuild the crossing. John McKay

Back to Square One

At the 10-6-04 HOA meet, John indicated that the fix was less than satisfactory. He is looking into providing a mat for CSX to install between the tracks and possibly regrading the approaches to the tracks. Both will be significant improvements. Also, I think CSX is reckless for failing to keep the bushes trimmed from its right of way so cars can see approaching trains from a reasonable distance.
