Answer from the City
Thank you for your recent comment on the City of Glendale’s internet web page. The purpose of the striping modifications on Glenoaks Boulevard is to discourage speeding by narrowing down the travel lanes. Speeding has always been a major concern for the Glenoaks Canyon. Based on our engineering studies, speeds in excess of 45 mph have often been recorded in that section of the roadway. Narrowing the width of the travel lanes to approximately 10’ to give motorists a more restrictive feeling is an effective traffic calming tool that has been utilized in many local jurisdictions including Glendale. We thank you for taking the time and bringing your concerns to our attention.
