Holiday Garbage

Dec 15, 2004

**Extra Garbage Bags Allowed for the Holidays**
We all have a lot more trash during the holidays. That?’s why Fort Worth residents with curbside city garbage service may place up to two extra plastic bags of garbage outside the brown garbage cart on their first regular pickup day after Christmas and New Year?’s at no additional charge. Extra bags should not exceed 30-gallons each.

Up to two extra bags per household will be collected with regular garbage pickup Dec. 27 through Jan. 7 only. Because Christmas Day and New Year?’s Day fall on Saturday this year, the regular weekly pickup schedule is not affected by the holidays.

**Pay Bags**
If you think you?’ll have more than two extra bags of holiday garbage, call 817-392-EASY (3279) to order city-authorized ?“pay bags.?” Bags will be mailed to you and the cost will appear on your next water bill. Pay bags are sold in sets of five for $15 plus tax. The pre-paid bags are optional and allow you to put additional garbage outside the cart for collection on your weekly pickup day?—without getting a ticket. You may purchase pay bags and use them any time you want to set extra garbage bags outside the brown cart on your weekly pickup day.

**Christmas Trees**
The city will collect old Christmas trees from the curb in front of residents?’ homes on their weekly garbage pickup days. Just be sure to remove all decorations and cut tall trees to 8 feet or less.
Both green and flocked trees are accepted, but you must remove all decorations, stands, nails and plastic bags or other wrapping. Christmas trees will be collected with brush and turned into mulch instead of taken to a landfill. To get rid of an artificial tree, place it at the curb on your designated bulky pickup week.

**Recycle Boxes**
Cardboard shipping boxes and gift boxes can be recycled, if they?’re not made of metallic paper. Flatten, cut or fold boxes so they fit inside the blue recycling cart with the lid completely closed.

**Drop-off Stations**
You may also take Christmas trees, excess garbage, recyclables, brush or bulky items to a city drop-off station for free. Drop-off stations are open Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except holidays. (Drop-off stations will be closed Christmas Day and New Year?’s Day.) Bring a recent water bill, driver?’s license or official ID to prove you live in Fort Worth.

Drop-off station locations:
?· 3224 Yuma Ave., off E. Berry Street

?· 2500 Brennan Ave, north of Northside Drive
