Tango with Mitra and Stefan

1. Because of High Demand, we have decided to offer a new total
beginners introduction to Tango opportunity this spring. The basic
deal is: 5 90-minute sessions, 7-8:30pm, Smart Space LA 12958
Washington Blvd. in Mar Vista, 90066, starting Thursday, April 19th.

2. This is the first of four 5-week series over the course of 6 months
in order to teach people completely new to the dance how to hold their
own on a social dance floor.

3. You and your classmates will progress together through the
fundamentals of Tango over the course of the year:
Tango 101: Basics
Tango 102: Improvisation
Tango 103: Musicality
Tango 104: Transitions

4. This is a carefully crafted curriculum that has been demonstrated
to teach classic Argentine Tango dancing efficiently.

5. Through this process, you will have opportunitites to learn about
and become integrated into the Argentine Tango community in LA.

6. Our classes are a supportive and fun environment, emphasizing
personal feedback and attention. We are passionate about Tango, the
progress of our students, and the growth of community through dance.

7. There are no prerequisites to Tango 101. Previous dance experience,
and signing up with a partner, are both recommended but not required.

8. Be prepared to get close; dancing will be done chest-to-chest, in
the traditional style of Tango.

9. Class will start Thursday, April 19th and it is $65 for the series
of 5. We are accepting registrations this week. There is limited space

About your teachers:

Mitra Martin

As a social dancer, Mitra has been dancing since 1998 when she first
encountered Tango in Buenos Aires. From 1998-2004 she lived in New
York City and enjoyed an intense six years of fantastic social dancing
of many styles surrounded by great dancers, teachers, DJs, and
musicians. She moved to Los Angeles in 2004 to work with West Coast
Tango artists and contribute to the local Tango community. Mitra is a
Tango festival junkie and has attended all the major Tango festivals
in North America, most of them several times. She has marathon danced
at the finest milongas of Europe and Argentina. Mitra has performed
with some of the most renowned and subtle leaders in North America. In
Los Angeles, she teaches and performs with Stefan Fabry, a modern
dancer and contact improviser, and her partner in refining and
experimenting with Tango. In 2000-2001, Mitra built an online art
installation dedicated to and inspired by Tango, located at
www.1times1.com.

Stefan Fabry
Stefan Fabry has been dancing and studying dance for over 17 years,
building organically on his early training in martial arts. He began
his intensive dance training with Tanz Projekte K?¶ln, where he trained
full time for three years under the guidance of James Saunders, Rob
McWilliams, and Frey Faust. Today, he studies, assists, and
collaborates with Rudy Perez, his dance mentor since 1997, and has
performed with Perez at Orpheum Theater. A versatile, committed
performer with a powerful presence, Fabry has performed at venues
across Southern California including REDCAT, Pasadena City College,
and Highways. His evolving body of original choreography includes the
critically acclaimed solo "Gonna Stay" (2003) and the full-length
piece "We Will Go Outside Where The Wild Wind Blows" (2006). Fabry
draws on improvisational dance as a key inspiration. He has studied
Contact Improvisation for over 15 years beginning with Rusty Lester,
and performed CI extensively with Shel Wagner-Rausch and Stephanie
Nugent at venues such as WCCIF and LA ID-Fest. He has studied
Argentine Tango since 2004 with Jaimes Friedgen, Moti Buchboot, and
his partner Mitra Martin. Fabry inspires students of dance all across
the West Coast.
