The Weed & Seed Program funds come from the Executive Office for Weed & Seed out of the Justice Department. The funds come to the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government who acts as the fiscal agent for the program though the Department of Neighborhoods. Weed & Seed Staff are Metro Government employees who are responsible for conducting the Weed & Seed Strategy in the Smoketown Shelby Park community.
The Smoketown Shelby Park Weed & Seed Program is governed by a Steering Committee who oversees the Program. the Steering Committee is made up or residents, business owners, community groups, community centers, local government and the U.S. Attorny's Office for the Western District of Kentucky.
The Committee has two co-chairs who work to see that the meetings move forward according to agenda. These co-chairs often serve as the point people for Weed & Seed with the Site Coordinator.
Every member/organization on the Steering Committee is represented by one vote when it comes time to vote on issues or programs. No one member/organization's vote counts more then anothers.
There are four sub-committees that help to make up the Steering Committee. Each committee tackles issues of concern to the community and helps to develop programs and plans to deal with important issues.
The Sub-Committees are:
Public Safety
Human Capitol
Economic Development
Neighborhood Restoration
