On Wed, 4/5/06, a sick raccoon was spotted walking slowly through the Oak Ridge neighborhood about 6:00 p.m. by Brenda Joseph. Brenda called the Shelby County Sheriff and followed the animal at a safe distance to warn other neighbors and children to stay back. The raccoon was captured and taken to the Oak Mountain Animal Clinic. We received a report that the animal did have rabies. Any animals that may have been bitten by the sick raccoon should be treated promptly. A big thank you to Brenda for the warning!
