Shelby County Sheriff?’s Office
Attn: Chris Curry, Sheriff
P.O. Box 1095
Columbiana, AL 35051

Dear Sheriff Curry:

On behalf of the Oak Ridge Homeowner?’s Association (ORHA), I would like to request your suggestions as to what actions can be taken to reduce or eliminate the parking by football fans on the streets of our subdivision during the Oak Mountain High School home football games.

The Oak Ridge Subdivision is located in the unincorporated portion of Northern Shelby County, AL, across from Heardmont Park and the Oak Mountain High School Football Stadium on HWY 119, at Mile Marker 23 (Between I-65 and HWY 280). There is only one entrance and exit to our subdivision. Presumably, the parking in our neighborhood is an effort to avoid the parking fee charged to park at Heardmont Park. We are concerned that the football fan parking that occurs on both sides of Oak Ridge Drive at the entrance to our subdivision, and along Southern Drive, narrows the road to one lane, and may restrict the passage of larger emergency medical or fire vehicles.

We understand that these are public streets and wanted to check with your office for guidance/options before we post any signs or take any other actions to deter football parking this fall. The first home game is August 26.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this safety related request.

Sincerely,

Henry Mark Coby
President, Oak Ridge Homeowner?’s Association (ORHA)
