Also wanted to note that I thought that was pretty eloquently-written intro in your response, Bill. I could practically hear America the Beautiful start playing as I read it.

I think the original poaster had a valid concern - not all issues are big.
The purpose of this website is to bring people together to discuss all the issues facing our community- big and small! Bill - The fire department is literally and figuratively the center of our community. It is a focal point of so much of the positive activity in our neighborhood and the efforts of the volunteers are greatly appreciated by all, even those within earshot of the station :) |

When I made this post it was not an attack on the fire department. I have said this from the start; I said: I respect firefighters for the risks they take and the much needed job they do. Furthermore I believe that our volunteers deserve even more credit since they are donating their time to our community. I also agree that the chief’s response was very well written. I don't agree with all of it but it was very well written.
This is a discussion board and that’s why I posted. Perhaps if everyone would make a few suggestions instead of taking sides or maybe even offer a bit of flexibility we just might actually solve something. I loved that reply about the flag waiving, like I'm not patriotic or that I’m selfish because I’m thinking about my kids. Try talking about the problem; don’t just take the high ground.
I never proposed to get rid of the fire siren. I simply offered a solution that was best for me. I'm sure there are many other options we should discuss some. |
