Why have the entrances (not only the main ones but the individual sections as well)

not been taken care of?  This is ridiculous

I am not on the board or anything like that, but I realize there is only so much that can be done with the current budget. If you want more services, then you must be willing to pay more in HOA dues...that is just common sense. I suspect the board is doing the best they can to get the bottom-feeders that do not pay their dues to pay what they agreed to pay when they moved here so the rest of us don't have to pay their way.

As President of your HOA Board this year, I would like to say, this board has been very busy this year. I, myself, being the most available, serves the HOA seven days a week, all hours of the day. Some of you have seen me at the playground working the grounds, filling in holes in common areas, walking the grounds with crews, inspecting sprinklers, etc.  I agree, the entrances are not the prettiest to view, and just this Sunday I was out with Mike's Landscaping pointing out the bermuda that creeps in.  Please feel assured that I see what you all see when it comes to the grounds and in the upcoming newsletter everyone will be informed of the sprinkler situation.  It is my hope to someday be able to maintain some colorful flowers at the entrances for the residents that want them (I particularly am fine with it being manicured and maintained). Flowers die and most perennials aren't attractive enough for color, but I have asked Mike to include a supplemental bid to their regular contract showing costs for having a beautiful floral display at each entrance. The pines had a ground cover that was diseased and removed, discussions for mulch and border are going on right now. The entrances will improve, this I can guarantee, but like Fred pointed out, we are not a wealthy neighborhood, so any 'hands on' work would be appreciated!

Thanks for all that you do, after reading all your replies we can agree that you have been involved.  I am not concerned about the entrances just for aesthitics but they play a major role in the value of our property because it encourages (or discourages) new homeowners and it sets an example of what we expect within our community.  Right now it screams neglect.  I understand this board has managed to establish some savings for the HOA, but at what cost.  Our greenbelts are dead or dying, we have lost countless trees due to no water (not just because of the ice) and none of the entrances are being cared for.  I agree that annuals are not the answer, because it is just a continual cost; however, I am not sure where you got your information regarding perennials.  I can assure you that the 2 main entrances could be filled with beauty and color that will return each year.  And if you want proof you can visit my garden anytime, it is strictly perennial.  I can also say that for about $500 (one time) this could be accomplished.  I personally would have no problem helping out with this, I just need notification a couple of weeks in advance.
