Hi Neighbors!

As you all know, people drive too fast on our neighborhood streets...especially zooming back and forth between El Cajon Blvd and University. The stop signs have helped a little but people still race between them. Since the community has already done a great job of getting some speed bumps installed on neighboring streets, I really think adding them to the Rolando blvd will complete the picture and reduce speeding, especially towards the top of the hill where the street narrows.

I know that some of you have worked very hard on the other streets. Any information on what needs to be done in order for the speed bumps to happen is greatly appreciated. Also, for those of you that live on Rolando Blvd, what are your feelings?

Speed Bumps

I am very frustrated with the traffic problem on Rolando Blvd. I just bought a home on Rolando Blvd. about 7 months ago and I can't believe the traffic. People travel in excess of 35-40 mph and roll through the stop signs. We have business trucks rambling through here and kids speeding with their car radios blasting. It's hard to feel like you live in a nice village neighborhood when all you hear is traffic. Our neighbors have children and they can't even play in the front yard. I believe we need to have speed bumps and the Police Dept. back us up by giving out tickets.
What can we do to put the speed bumps in?

Speed bumps

We live on Lorca Drive, just a couple of blocks over and we have had the same issue. We had the police come out and monitor the area with their radar speed tracking guns. Although they saw quite a few speeders, they told us they will not be adding anymore speed bumps to these residential streets because they are finding that the bumps are causing problems for fire trucks and such that carry heavy weight. It has something to do with the damage to the truck axles and frames and such. :^( Our street is one car width narrow with a lot of turns and hills too. It's scary to let the kids on their bikes in the road.

I have lived on Rolando for 40 years and have been a member of the Council for about 15 of those years.  I can tell you that the Council has dealt with this question at least four times that I remember.  The answer always comes out that Rolando Blvd. is a safety thoroughfare for fire trucks, ambulances and police to get into the community as quickly as possible.  The instillation of speed bumps on the boulevard would cause an unduly waste of time for these vehicles.  Also, due to the speed of the vehicles, the bumps would cause them to veer and sway unsafely through the neighborhood.  If you haven't tried it, go to a Rolando Community Council meeting and see what is on the agenda this month.  Les
