Canyon Traffic Study Caught in City Budget Gridlock

Mar 11, 2002

With the support of Cindy Miscikowski, we requested that the City conduct a comprehensive neighborhood traffic study to consider the many concerns expressed by community members. To get the ball rolling, the Department of Transportation [DOT] traffic study manager addressed our 2001 annual meeting and subsequently a community advisory committee was formed. The committee is composed of volunteers, most, but not all, members of SMCCA. The committee held two brainstorming sessions with Debby Deiner, Chief Deputy of the Council office and developed a consensus document seting forth "Goals." Unfortunately, just as the DOT was to begin our study, the City instituted a hiring freeze and DOT is unable to hire the necessary staff. We sent a letter to the Mayor urging him to fund necessary staff. We have not received a reply. If you would like a copy of goals, or more information, contact us at infosmcca@aol.com or at our P.O. Box. P.O. Box 3441, Santa Monica, CA 90408-3441.
