The LA County Sanitation District is proposing a new sewer line to run from the Carson Treatment Plant down Figueroa, catching Gaffey, up Capitol and onto Western to continue down to the Royal Palms State Park. Although the project, called Clearwater, involves underground drilling, I am wondering about the potential for more sinkholes, not to mention the huge LPG gas tanks on Gaffey. There will be a meeting at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in San Pedro on Thursday evening, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. It's my understanding that San Pedro doesn't even use LACSD services for sewage, so why do we shoulder this burden again? This promises to be a 10-year project with significant environmental impact. Of course, this is more of the case of the fox guarding the hen house if they conducted their own environmental impact study which is available online at www.ClearwaterProgram.org. Come out and ask questions...this is our neighborhood!
