San Antonio Wave Swim Club

Head Coach's Report

May 30, 2001

Corpus was fun! Did you hear the cheers, feel the spirit, notice the sense of teamwork in the air? What a great meet for the WAVE! There were tons of personal best swims and the kids looked good in their technique. I loved the hats for the milers who swam the 1500 for the first time. I see that the distance lanes at Crest will always be filled when these young milers get in high school.

The relays were fun (all 52 of them). This is one of the few meets that we swim relays at, other than at Championship Meets. This is because most relays are offered at the end of meets and we do not want to keep swimmers around for hours after their events are over. Also, history has told me that most parents are tired, as well as the swimmers, by the end of the meet and we are pulling teeth to get them swum. When they are in the middle of the meet, it is easier to swim them.

I would like to introduce Coach Eddie to you. Eddie is our new Curl Coach. He originally comes from El Paso where he swam for Coach Leo (remember our fundraiser for his family?) at the AquaPosse in the 1980's. Eddie was Captain of his high school team and went to Junior College there. He began his coaching career coaching age groupers for the Water Ranch. He coached several years in the El Paso area and in Juarez, Mexico. Eddie then moved to Ft. Worth where he was an Aquatics Director at the YMCA. From there Eddie came to San Antonio and worked at a financial institution. Eddie brings enthusiasm and a big heart for swimming. Welcome Coach Eddie to the WAVE!
