Proposition 3 Moving Forward

Sep 30, 2001

Coordination. Communication. Community Will. New Proposition 3 Creekways Coordinator Edna Ortega says those concepts will be her guide as she begins working with the team that will invest the $20 million tax dollars earmarked for acquisition of two of the city's longest creekways, the Salado and the Leon.

Ortega spoke at the August meeting of the Salado Creek Foundation Board of Directors. She also brought a variety of maps detailing the different phases of development for the linear parkways project.

At every step of the process, Ortega says the city will try to get the most for our money through careful negotiations. Ortega says it is her mission to listen to the concerns of landowners and neighbors to try and forge agreements that will satisfy all the parties and create a terrific community resource.

One important element of Ortega's job is to combine projects that are already funded and underway with the new aspects of Prop 3. One example of this process can be found in Phase One of the Hike and Bike Trail, where money from the state and a previous bond issue will be added to Prop 3 funds to complete the first leg of the project...from Willow Springs Golf Course to Comanche County Park.

Ortega says she welcomes input and she can be reached at 207-2270 or through e-mail at eortega@sanantonio.gov.
