Jan 23, 2003

Assemblyman Dario Frommer, Assemblyman John Laird, and Assemblywoman
Wilma
Chan
cordially invite you to attend a hearing of the

Committee on Health,

Committee on Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials

&

Select Committee on
California Children's School Readiness and Health

"Asthma: Why California's Children Can't Breath"

Wednesday, February 19, 2003
9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Room 4202
State Capitol
Sacramento, California

Approximately 600,000 children are afflicted with asthma, an increase
of
160% since 1980. Asthma-related hospitalizations in California number
more
than any other childhood disease. Among children ages five to seven,
asthma
is the leading cause of school absences accounting for an annual loss
of 10
million school days per year.

Please join the Committee on Health, the Committee on Environmental
Safety
and Toxic Materials and the Select Committee on California Children's
School
Readiness and Health in a discussion about the causes, increasing
rates,
state/community efforts, and what can be done to alleviate and reduce
the
incidence of asthma in California.

To R.S.V.P. for this hearing, please e-mail Oscar "Joe" Daly at
oscar.daly@asm.ca.gov or, with
questions,
call 916-319-2016.
