National Call-In Day For Children

National Call-In Day
For Children
Wednesday March 19, 2003
The Bush administration?’s promises to Leave No Child Behind are mocked by tax and budget
deeds that leave millions of children but no millionaire behind.
The Bush Administration?’s Tax and Budget Proposals Must Be Stopped!
On Wednesday, March 19th the Children?’s Defense Fund is asking everyone in America
who is concerned about children to call their U.S. Senators and Representatives.
Children need our voice and we MUST send a powerful and consistent message.
On Wednesday, March 19th, call the Capitol Hill Switchboard at 202-224-3121, ask for
your U.S. Senators and Representative and say:
?• Vote NO to all tax giveaways to millionaires.
The 2001 Bush administration?’s tax cut gives $477 billion over 10 years to the top one percent of
taxpayers--those with average incomes exceeding $1 million a year. The new Bush administration tax plan
gives an average of $90,000 in tax cuts to each millionaire in America.
?• Vote NO on the Bush administration?’s budget plan to dismantle Head Start and block grant Medicaid,
foster care, and low income housing under the guise of state flexibility.
Giving control of these key programs to deficit-ridden states puts the most vulnerable children at risk of a
double budget buzz saw.
?• Vote NO on the Bush administration?’s budget proposals that would eliminate, slash and freeze crucial
children?’s programs.
30,000 children would lose child care this year and 570,000 would lose after-school services. New barriers
would keep children from getting school lunches and low-income families from getting the Earned Income
Tax Credit.
?• SUPPORT THE COMPREHENSIVE DODD-MILLER ACT TO LEAVE NO CHILD BEHIND (S.448/H.R.
936).
Not to be confused with the under-funded Bush administration?’s No Child Left Behind Act, the
comprehensive Act to Leave No Child Behind (S. 448/H.R. 936) will truly give every child in America a
Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start and a Safe Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with
the help of caring families and communities.
Our Children are Depending on YOU!
?• Call your U.S. Senators and Representative on March 19th. Ask your family, friends, co-workers etc. to also
call on March 19th. Copy and forward this flier to your networks, friends and colleagues. You can print a
copy of this flier from http://www.cdfactioncouncil.org.
?• Attend a Wednesday in Washington Capitol Hill rally and legislative visits on April 9th to ?“STOP THE
BUDGET AND TAX WAR ON CHILDREN?”.
?• Come to the Children?’s Defense Fund ?‘s National Conference in Washington, DC April 8th-11th 2003.
For more information on CDF?’s conference and rally visit our website at http://www.childrensdefense.org/conference_2003/default.htm or
