The February broadcast of Education News Parents Can Use, the U.S.
Department of Education's monthly television series, will provide
parents
information and resources to help them to help their children to become
better citizens. Schools across the country have created programs that
focus on character, civic participation, responsibility, and service.
These
programs develop habits that are essential to American democratic life
and
encourage students to put their knowledge and ideas into practice by
helping
to solve real community problems. Research has shown that students who
participate in such programs demonstrate increased civic and social
responsibility and high academic achievement.
