California Head Start Association 2003 Awards

Nov 09, 2002

Dear California Head Start Community,

One of the many benefits of membership in the California Head Start Association, Region IX and the National Head Start Association is the opportunity to participate in their scholarship and awards program. This letter is to identify the role of the State Associations in the NHSA scholarship applicant selection process; alert you to the application?’s submittal due date of November 15, 2002 (this has been extended from November 8th) and, request your assistance in encouraging your eligible membership to apply for these scholarships and awards.

NHSA has mailed to all Head Start programs a copy of their Awards and Scholarships booklet, which details their application process ( for additional copies visit www.nhsa.org). Please refer to the booklet for specific details about each scholarship and award. CHSA will accept applications for all categories of awards and scholarships. To be considered eligible for selection as CHSA?’s scholarship/award candidate by the CHSA panel, applicants must:
?· Submit a complete application to your State Association;
?· Be your State Association?’s selected and approved NHSA candidate, verified by a Letter of Confirmation;
?· Be from an agency that is a member of CHSA, NHSA and the Regional Association or hold an individual membership to all.

Specific questions about NHSA?’s scholarships or awards, or requests for NHSA applications and application instructions should be addressed to the NHSA office.

The State Association?’s Awards Panel will review and evaluate all eligible NHSA applications. Successful candidates will be notified in writing by November 15th and provide special recognition of nominees for Administrator of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Support Staff of the Year, Parent of the Year, and *Friend of Head Start at the CHSA annual training conference in January, 2003.

Questions about the processing of CHSA Association scholarship or award applications should be addressed to Sheila Neal at (209)-772-3980 / Calaveras Head Start/State Preschool, PO Box 1225, Valley Springs, CA 95252 / sheila@volcano.net.

We hope you will encourage your programs to participate in this award process. The CHSA is proud to offer this opportunity for recognition for members of our Head Start family and to show everyone ?“Head Start Works?”.

Sincerely,

Sheila Neal, CHSA Awards Edward Condon
