Despite substantial gains in access to computers and the Internet, many Americans are still on the "wrong side of the technology divide" where the enormous social, civic, educational and economic opportunities offered by rapid advances in information technology remain out of reach, according to this new report from the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights and Education Fund and the Benton Foundation. The report looks at two key federal programs for bridging the technology gap that have been targeted by the Bush Administration for elimination and argues for continued federal leadership to bringing a whole nation online.
