''AMERICA'S WORKING FAMILIES NEED MORE CHILD CARE HELP!''

Jul 13, 2002

On June 26, 2002, the Senate Finance Committee approved a bill to renew
the child care and TANF programs. The bill makes modest improvements
to
the TANF program, and holds the line on work hours required of welfare
recipients. However, the bill provides only $5.5 billion in new funds
for child care over the next five years - an amount that will help very
few, if any, additional families with child care.

If you haven't contacted your Senator yet, please do so this week.
Give them this simple message: "Vote for an amendment to increase
child
care funding beyond the $5.5 billion approved by the Senate Finance
Committee to help more children receive quality child care. Reject any
amendments to increase work hours beyond the current 30 hours per week
for families receiving TANF assistance."

Contact your Senators by calling the Capitol Switchboard at (202)
224-3121 or send them an e-mail by going to
