Now is the time to let the US Education Department's new "Commission
on Opportunity in Athletics" know that fathers support Title IX, the
1972
legislation that sparked exponential growth in girls' school sports by
requiring gender equity in education. The Commission holds its first
Town
Meeting next Tuesday and Wednesday in Atlanta, GA to examine Title IX,
which faces considerable opposition in the current Administration.
The Atlanta Town Meeting is August 27 and 28 at the Wyndham Hotel
downtown. If you want to attend, or even volunteer to speak, please
contact joe@dadsanddaughters.org or call 888-824-3237 right away. You
can also write Secretary of Education Rod Paige now at

Let him know that Title IX is widely popular and that the country is
watching the Commission. Men should testify frequently so the
Commission and the public understand that this law does NOT pit girls
against boys or women against men. Besides applauding Title IX for its
many benefits, we should reiterate how far we are from true equity.
Rather
than weaken Title IX, the Commission should enforce Title IX even more
strongly than in the past.
Other Commission Town Meetings take place this autumn in Chicago,
San Diego and Colorado Springs
