The Los Angles County Children and Families First Commission has voted to spend $100 million of its Prop 10 tobacco tax revenues to create universal, free preschool for all of the county's children.

The Children?’s Defense Fund reports that California advocates successfully used a grass-roots effort, including a postcard campaign with family pictures on the front and the family budget on the back, to successfully protect the state?’s child care assistance budget from cuts that have affected the rest of the state?’s social services programs.
