Most family abductions tend to resolve themselves over time, but this does not mean that they are benign or that the family situations that give rise to them can be resolved without the intervention of outside agencies, according to this federal report. The data show that the more than 200,000 children estimated to have been victims of family abduction in 1999 were caught up in divisive?—often disturbing?—family dynamics.
