The economic stimulus legislation ran into trouble this week, as the
Senate Republicans voted to block full Senate consideration of the
stimulus bill developed by Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) and approved by the
Finance Committee. The Baucus plan includes tax rebates for low income
working families, improvements to the Unemployment Insurance (UI) program
and health coverage for newly unemployed workers - important provisions
recommended by CDF and many others concerned about children and
families.
The next steps on the stimulus package are unclear as attempts are
being made to resolve differences between the Baucus plan which targets
assistance to low income workers and the House-passed plan which provides
major new tax cuts to big corporations and wealthy individuals.

to support an economic stimulus plan that helps low income children and
