Congress is continuing its work on the omnibus farm bill that also
includes Food Stamp reauthorization and improvements. The House passed its
farm bill (H.R. 2646) in October, and it includes several of the
important improvements to the Food Stamp program that are proposed in the Act
to Leave No Child Behind. The Senate Agriculture Committee is debating
its version of the farm bill, and is considering additional Food Stamp
improvements that are in the Act to Leave No Child Behind, including
provisions to further simplify the program, provide states with
flexibility to serve more working families and partially restore food stamp
benefits to legal immigrants.
WHAT YOU CAN DO: Contact your Senators and urge them to support Food
Stamp improvements in the final farm bill that restore benefits for legal
immigrants and make other improvements for low income children and
families. You can learn who your Senators and Representatives are and send
them an email through the CDF Action Council website at:

the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121.
