FY 2002 APPROPRIATIONS

Nov 14, 2001

The House and Senate have approved versions of the FY 2002 Labor,
Health and Human Services Appropriations bill (H R. 3061) and both include
some modest new investments in Head Start and child care - small steps
toward the full support for these programs proposed in the Act to Leave
No Child Behind. The Senate also voted to include in its bill a new
mental health parity amendment designed to end discriminatory mental
health coverage.

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Contact your Senators and Representatives and urge
them to pass a final Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations bill
that includes new funds for Head Start and child care and includes the
mental health parity amendments. You can learn who your Senators and
Representatives are and send them an email through the CDF Action Council
website at: http://capwiz.com/cdf/dbq/officials/ . A toll free number
has been set up for phone calls to Congress in support of the mental
health parity amendment until November 14 - 1-866-PARITY4
(1-866-727-4894).
