Efforts are underway to bring an accredited MPH Program in Community Health Education to the Sacramento area next year. This program would be an extension program of San Jose State University and designed to serve northern California, including our rural communities.
While details are still being worked out, we do know that to make the program viable and reasonably priced, we will need a cohort of 30 students. These students will move through the program together and a new cohort will start again after their graduation. The program is anticipated to take 2-3 years and will be designed for the full-time working professional.
I am unable to answer more detailed questions at this time, but it would be helpful to have interested persons email me with their contact information so we may be sure to reach them as program details emerge.
We anticipate holding 1-2 informational meetings after the first of the year for potential candidates.
(Please note that this MPH program is different from the one that UC Davis is just starting for physicians that you may have heard about).
This is a very exciting development in building the public health infrastructure in our northern counties and expanding the health education capacity that is so valuable. We welcome your ideas and suggestions on meeting the diverse needs of potential MPH candidates in northern
California.
