THE BIG PUSH IS ON!!! HELP GET GUARANTEED INCREASED FUNDING FOR ABUSED
AND NEGLECTED CHILDREN.
Momentum is building for guaranteed increased funding for abused and
neglected children. Your calls are making a difference. Please help
keep the pressure on. The clock is ticking and these next two weeks are
critically important.
The challenge is to get the Senate to pass the guaranteed increased
funding for both the Promoting Safe and Stable Families Program ($200
million a year) and the Voucher Program ($60 million a year) in S. 1503,
the Promoting Safe and Stable Families Amendments Act of 2001. These
guaranteed funds will protect abused and neglected children, promote
adoption, and assist older youths aging out of foster care at age 18 with no
place to go.
The House has passed a version of the Promoting Safe and Stable
Families Amendments but it includes NO guaranteed increased funds for either
of these programs for abused and neglected children. Without increased
guarantee, these children will not be assured of the help they need.
Contact your Senators now and get your colleagues and friends to do the
same. For more information about the Senate and House bills and the
impact of increased guaranteed funding on your state, check the CDF
website at
http://www.cdfactioncouncil.org/child%20welfare%20services%20index.htm.
ACTION NEEDED: Call your Senators today and tell them to act now to
increase the guaranteed funding for the Promoting Safe and Stable
Families Program and the Voucher Program as in S. 1503 for at least 2003-2006.
This is a combined increase of $260 million a year, or just over $1
billion over four years. Abused and neglected children need their help
now. If you are unsure of who your Senators are, visit

Senate offices by phone through the Capitol Switchboard at (202)
224-3121.
