PUBLISHER'S PEACE

An Effective Leader

I'm very adamant about what effective leadership is or is not. I'm inspired by what I consider great leadership to be. It's what I structured my after school mentor program around - Leadership & Critical Thinking Skills.

When I speak to young people at my over ten adopted grade or high schools throughout Chicago, I emphasize how important it is for them to be leaders in their own space and to think extremely critical about every decision being made, especially during their teen years.

I love watching effective leaders in action. It moves me to be in the company of who I perceive real leaders to be. I can name dozens of effective leaders. But why? Everybody has their idea of what leadership is and who they are. And most may not agree with me at all. Each person decide who they consider a great leader to be and why. But what I will present is what effective leaders should do, in my mind.

Effective Leaders should admit their mistakes..... Effective Leaders should not be void of criticism..... Effective Leaders should look for other effective and established leaders to surround themselves around..... Effective Leaders don't complain without giving solutions..... Effective Leaders don't sweat the small stuff, even though they acknowledge that small things can become big problems if not dealt with in a timely matter..... Effective Leaders recognize opportunities..... Effective Leaders invest in other leaders, primarily emerging leaders within their racial group..... Effective Leaders look for ways to make their team, family and communities better.

These are things that I think effective leaders should do. They should also strive to achieve these things at the highest level. Obtaining GREATNESS should always be what's on the mind of leaders. To be great is not as hard as it appears. It just requires vision, determination, innovation, and an ability to see the future - and how leaders think that future should look for progress.

I'm growing into what I think is an effective leader. I've matured greatly over the last year toward being a leader that (I) can trust. I still have miles to travel before I can stamp myself as a valid leader. I truly want to be an effective leader that can inspire the souls and minds of people! I want my leadership to 'change the world' where I live, work and play. I'm determined to become a great LEADER! Peace and One Love.
