More on grass versus artificial turf,
We are waiting to hear the out come on the Nov. 30  Abbott Park meeting about The Chicago Park District's plans to renovate the track behind Harlan High School by replacing the center with artificial turf.
NEW Information:
To google Case file [PDF] on Title below:

THE CIRCUIT COURT OF COOK COUNTY ILLINOIS COUNTY DEPARTMENT ...

installation of a hazardous artificial turf field at the location commonly known as North. Meadow of South Field in Lincoln Park, Chicago

There is a case in the Circuit Court of Cook County in which "Protect Our Parks" (not-for profit corporation) is the plantiff vs Chicago Park District (Bd of Commissioner Gery Chico & General Superintendent Tim Mitchell)

The complaint is an injunction (lawsuit) to stop installion of artifical turf in the South Field of Lincoln Park. The complaint says the artificial grass is hazardous. The CPD admitted in 2008 that They had not performed any independent test to determine if the turf was safe! (Turf may have lead and other toxic substances)

The Roseland Heights community needs not only to know:

Will CPD make any other improvements to the park . Will CPD complete a study (City or CPD) to evaluate the negative impact this will have on the neighborhood. (One "negative impact" was that more organized sports interests would influence how and who would be using the park and more large sporting events permits at Abbott Park would disturb the neighborhood with increased noise, traffic and parking issues. Would this mean more parking & driving on grass. The heightened use of the park would have a detrimental effect upon the neighborhoods where the track is located in terms of extended hours, of noise, dedicated use, traffic, and more trespassing on private property.
*But most of all the residents need to know could this artificial turf be dangerous to a child's health & safety???

We would like to know before the community makes any commitment and we need it in writing!.
