There are many reasons to say "Congratulations!" - a particular achievement or a special accomplishment. Whatever it is that has been achieved - passing an exam or test, a successful business deal or the publication of a novel - it is something to be proud of and to be celebrated! As the people close by, we surely want to share in the joy of the occasion and express our happiness for the lucky achiever........ our own Ms La Velma English.
Last night at the Hilton Oak Lawn Hotel the 9th Annual Alumni Awards Reception & Dinner was held. After hors D'oeuvres and cocktails within the intimate backdrop of the Lincoln Room the event moved to the elegant environment of the Grand Ball Room were guests set down for dinner. The guests enjoyed culinary excellence, stellar service and exquisite surroundings, but the best was yet to come. Dressed reminiscent of a movie star RHCA's own La Velma Enghish gave even more sparkle to these beautiful surroundings as she recived her Golden Alumna Award. Ms English, Chairperson, President's Council of Community Volunteers, has every reason to be proud. This award recognizes the achievement of an exceptional voluntary nature covering her entire life. The office of Alumni Affairs and The Chicago Teachers/Chicago State University Alumni Association Board of Directors has reserved this award for those alumni who have maintained extremely high level of service to society. The value of the award is largely defined by its recipients, and it has been given to Ms. La Velma English, a very special lady to all of us.
