Police are seeking a man today who they say was involved in a string of bold crimes committed in broad daylight in the area just west of Marquette University.
The incidents all occurred Saturday in an area bounded on the east by N. 27th St.; on the west by 35th St.; on the north by Clybourn Ave. and on the south by Wisconsin Ave.
In the first incident, the suspect, who was riding a dirt bike believed to be red or black, approached a 49-year-old woman and attempted to rob her about 10:45 a.m. He also forced her to a secluded area where he assaulted her.
The next incident occurred about 11:30 a.m. when the man attempted to rob a 48-year-old woman. The third incident occurred about 1:40 p.m. when the man robbed a 27-year-old woman who is 8 months pregnant.
In each case, the women were walking down the street when the man approached them and engaged them in conversation before threatening them with a long-barreled revolver. He was described as being an African-American between the ages of 18 and 28; between 5'2" and 5'9", slim to medium build and with unkempt hair. He was wearing a gray or dark jacket and dark jeans.
Police are asking that anyone with information on the incidents contact the Criminal Investigation Unit at 935-7360.
