Off-Street Parking

Posted in: Redland Woods
Our Park and playground area is in need of off-street parking. It is becoming more dangerous to park a vehicle along Gold Canyon. Parents and children are not paying attention to traffic when entering and exiting their parked vehicles. Once Gold Canyon is extended to Bulverde Road, it will become a major thoughfare and parking on Gold Canyon will must likely not be permitted. Off-street parking will make it safer for everyone who uses the Park. Additional amenities to the area will only increase the need for additional parking.

Possibility???

Since we don't know what land we have available in the park area to build upon, it is quite possible that a parking lot could not be built. If it is possible, we would need a ramp to come to street level for at least one car length and might need a detention pond. All the survey and permit work needed for a pool would still be needed for a parking lot under current city ordinances. Thus, a parking lot could be quite expensive in and of itself.
We were told by the SAFFE officers several years ago that they could ticket cars parking on Gold Canyon at that time. Since it was not a through road, no one was bothering with it. When the road goes through to Bulverde, there will be no parking. I know people say that there are other places that parking is permited and assume we could do so also. Many of these situations have existed for years and were grandfathered when the areas where annexed and before the ordinances changed or those streets have a different designation that makes it OK. Just because it seems similar, doesn't mean that it is treated the same now.
