Portland Museum News

Dec 06, 2005

The Portland Museum had it's "Annual Christmas Sale", on December 4th. Many Kentucky Crafters brought their items to show and sell. The proceeds of this event will benefit the Portland Museum and the individuals who created the works of art.
There were books by Kentucky authors, dried floral arrangements, ornaments, photos, prints, hand-dipped tapers, Native American art, and herbal items.
Everyone enjoyed the event. There was hot apple cider and cookies, as well as hands-on printing in the "Beechgrove Press".

Community Curators update:
The participants chose their nationality projects. They will cover Irish, German, French, African-American and other nationalities that were part of the growing of Portland. The official exhibit will occur in the Spring of 2006.

Photography Interns:
Our Interns have been busy with the documenting of Portland structures. They have taken wonderful photographs and are starting to put them in a user friendly data-base.

Story Circle:
The museum continues to stay in contact with the individuals who will be creating a community event for 2006.

Tourism:
The tour had a trial run with the Interns from the photography group. The reaction was very positive. They really enjoyed their visit to the Squire Earick House.

Portland Preservation Alliance:
We have began to take names from individuals who wish to be a part of the alliance. Anyone interested can contact the museum at 776-7678 or Mary Turner at mturner57mary@netscape.net, hope to hear from many.

December will be the month of reviewing what has been done and will be done and making sure that everything is running as smooth as possible. It will be a time for discussion and the "tying up of loose ends", so that the coming new year will be successful.
