The Pond

The land at the end of San Joaquin is called River Trails Park and is a public park of the City of Fort Worth.

Who takes care of the park?  Mows it?  Empties the trash cans?  If is a public park,  then it is open to the public...not just our neighborhood correct?

RTHA has filed to "Adopt a Park" to partner in keeping the area in good shape. Over the last three years we have requested and received trees from the city in a forestry grant program and our volunteers have planted those trees in the park. Part of the agreement is that we make sure the trees are watered. The water comes from the City but our volunteer goes out and waters the trees. This year the city forestry department has the manpower to plant those trees themselves. The park will be getting 15 or so new trees later this year.

RTHA has also applied for a Neighborhood Park Development Grant to install a water fountain in the park. We are waiting for the answer from the city.

Phase 2 of River Trails Park is a playground with a price tag of 90K +                      Parks improvements are now being funded through funds from revenues of the gas leases paid to Fort Worth. We have asked where our "phase 2" is on that list and will share that information as soon as we get that answer.

The "Adopt a Park" program sounds like a great program.  Are the volunteers part of RTHA?  How do they get City water to the park to water the trees or is there already water lines running to it so it would pretty easy to tap in for a water fountain?  Didn't this land use to belong to Mr. Newell as well?  Did he donate this land to the City of Fort Worth for a park or has it always belonged to the City of Fort Worth?  It would be nice to see jogging / biking trails go back into the land behind it as well since its seems we may not be able to jog around the pond.  Do you think that would be something Mr. Newell would approve?

The volunteers are part of RTHA. We welcome anyone who wants to help. Our Beautification Chair coordinates that.  The tap for water was put in when the park pavilion was. They will need to run a 'potable water' line from that tap for drinking water.

The land was originally donated to City of Fort Worth Parks by Tim Fleet, who developed the River Trails neighborhood. It was part of the requirement that the city had for development of new neighborhoods at that time.

My Pond is Your Pond..... ....PEOPLE.....Can we all not just get along .......its just water.......my word......you would think there was gold planted in the grass...i wonder how much the geese have to pay to use the pond????   they travel from pond to pond...someone should tell them that is prohibited....
