Parking

Posted in: Homeowner

What are the rules for business vehicle parking in front of your residence over-night and on weekends?

Also, how many vehicles can one house-hold have?

In our township, there is no limit but vehicles must be in working order and registered. If not, they must be garaged. Sounds like a problem related to a number of people living there. If so, you may want to check the Deed that restricts the relationships of the residents or if it is a rental, talk to the property manager and report who you see living there and have them compare it to the names on the lease. Vehicle ownership can be obtained from the DMV.

In our township, only one commercial vehicle may park on the property. Sounds like your neighbor is getting around that by parking on a public street. In a nearby township, an ordinance was passed prohibiting regularly parking commercial vehicles on the street in front of residences.Your neighbor may also be violating Land Use and Zoning regulations if they are running a commercial business from a residence. Careful documentation, persistance, photographs, and the support of your neighbors can resolve this.

I would suggest taking your concerns to Township Council and garner the support of your neighbors.

Ordinances and Zoning maps can sometimes be found online. If not, they are available at your township office.

Best wishes and thank you for your concern in maintaining your neighborhood.
