Paradise Valley Oasis Block Watch

Classic Phoenix Planned Community from Day One!

Established Neighborhood
Paradise Valley Oasis was established in the early 1960's. The infrastructure was built by John F Long in an effort to create a higher level home environment and the first show homes were built on Topaz Circle (9800 North 30th St). The infrastructure borders were Shea to the north (which really did not exist at that time), Northern to the south, 32nd Street to the east and 24th street to the west.

A large slump block marker with the name "Paradise Valley Oasis" was placed on the southwest corner property of Northern (which at that point was also the transition where Northern turned north and then became 32nd street) and Onyx. That marker was in place until about 1990 and the home owner at that time had it removed.

As it worked out, at that time, nobody wanted to move this far out into the boondocks and spend the kind of money what was expected from the established show homes. The entire infrastructure was sold to Allied and Hallmark and they finished building out the area.

From the Beginning Paradise Valley Oasis was Classic Phoenix
It is widely agreed and stated, that John F Long, who just recently passed away, was the father of the layout plan of Phoenix as we know it: Major streets on the mile, minor streets at the half mile, shopping centers on the corners and schools and churches in the middle, with homes filling in the rest of the area.

The Paradise Valley Oasis Block Watch was formed to help neighbors to communicate and fight crime in our neighborhood. By getting to know our neighbors we can better protect each other and our property. Get to know who lives around you and who belongs in the neighborhood. Call the police with any suspicious behavior or vehicles.

About our association

Paradise Valley Oasis Block Watch

The Paradise Valley Oasis Block Watch (PVOBW) organization's goal: Create an organized community of neighbors who observe what is normal and abnormal for their neighborhood, and who easily communicate with one another.

The name "The Paradise Valley Oasis Block Watch" was actually established for this community ~20 years ago, but Block Watch did not seem to be as important then, as it is now.

Communications
Do you know your neighbors, at least those immediately adjacent to you? Get to know who lives around you, so you can learn and know who belongs and who does not. As you move around, inside and outside of your home, develop a habit of looking up and down the street and in your alley, and make mental notes of everything normal, and compare what you find with anything that seems unusual, or does not seem to fit.

Talk to your neighbors, at least those who are close to your home; tell them you are making an effort to watch activity and that you would like to be able to contact them if some suspicious event occurs. Ask them to please do the same for you; ask for their contact information: phone number(s) and email address, and give them your information in the exchange.

If you have a report, or questions about anything on this site or about Block Watch, please send email click the "Email Us" link below, to contact Jerry Cline and Denny Walker. Both Denny and Jerry (me) are the PVOBW Co-Captains and have been trained by the Phoenix Police in both in Block Watch management, and the more advanced Phoenix Neighborhood Patrol (PNP) methods and techniques.

Several of us in the PVOBW area have PNP training and we patrol the area from time to time. We highly recommend PNP training. For more information, contact us via the link below.

We have our own email list server, that allows all of us who have joined the list to get a quick email that can update all of us about suspicious activity or crime report. To join our email list server, send a request email to the "Email Us" link below.

We publish The Paradise Valley Oasis Block Watch Newsletter quarterly. Please contact us for anything relative to our PVOBW Newsletter. PDF copies are available from our home page, see: "Paradise Valley Oasis Block Watch Newsletter" on our home page (Click the link "Paradise Valley Oasis Block Watch Home Page" below).

Actively Fighting Crime

As we increase our awareness and actively watch for unusual activity, and possible crime and criminal events we create the safer neighborhood. Call the police when you witness any suspicious behavior or vehicles. Protect yourselves and your neighbors!

Sense of Community

Our first annual Block Watch Party was a success! The entire Topaz Circle (9800 North 30th Street) culdesac was filled with grills, coolers full of goodies, neighbors, Phoenix Fire trucks and ambulance, Phoenix Police cars and officers.

Friendships were formed between adults, children, Phoenix Police and Fire. We plan to do it again, and will announce the event here and in The Paradise Valley Oasis Block Watch Newsletter
