Actual Copy of Pickerington's Reimbursement of Taxes

Picture

Dispite months of questions on the Road & Bridge Reimbursement..

Unlike information that has been reported in the past, the City of Pickerington’s proposed reimbursement of the 1.5 mill road & bridge levy is not as “sweet” a deal as some residents were led to believe.

Attached to this posting is the text of a letter to explain the taxable reimbursement that the City of Pickerington has proposed to the Trustees of Violet Township.

This is provided so that you can be the judge….if this is a fair and honorable deal or sided to the benefit of one party over the other. Remember as you read this that agricultural land is assessed a lower tax rate than developed residential land or commercial land. Since over 800 acres of land are in some form or other of the annexation process from unincorporated Violet Township to the incorporated City of Pickerington these dollars (particularly developed lands) do add up.

** Please note that the typo of CUAV – (should be CAUV) is not that of PATA. One could wonder if any of the lands sought in annexation would ever maintain the “rural feel” that has made this community desirable in the past, when officials aren’t comfortable with the appropriate acronym?

Posted here is also the text of CAUV and a link to more complete information from the Ohio Taxation Agency.

Under Chapter 5713 of the Ohio Revised Code, county auditors are required, upon application by landowners, to assess qualified agricultural property according to its current agricultural use value (CAUV). Only land which is used exclusively for agricultural purposes may be assessed in this manner. The Tax Commissioner is responsible for developing the specific rules and standards used by county auditors in the assessment of real property according to its current agricultural use value.
