Picktown will change with amends

Last week I posted the online minutes of the Rules Committee.

Then there was a posting about what is my point?

A few days later John B. posted a complaint about giving public dollars away to the developers.

If you all would read the proposed Pickerington City Charter amendment you will see many of these give-a-ways would have never gotten off the ground in the first place if our the City Charter had allowed referendums to be run on these zoning and annexations ordinances of 2001.

In October of 2001, our Pickerington City Council who's votes we now know affect everyone in our community passed two annexations and rezoning as EMERGENCY. That meant that the citizens of Pickerington could not challenge their decisions at the ballot. Please also consider the votes down Diley road and how those properties were annexed into Pickerington and passed as EMERGENCY.

If you don't believe the strong influence these builders had over the former Mayor and the City council scroll down the left side of this web page a look at the Homewood letters and how their CEO demanded the Randy Hughes ensure the builder against ''elector challenges'' in exchange for donating 21 acres to Pickerington.

One of the regulars on this web site ran a referendum of the rezoning of the property behind the new Kroger store. They rejected that referendum because of the form. The second charter amendment will address that issue. Clearly the circulators will now have a chance to get their petition form checked out prior to circulation and they will be provided with the correct and accepted steps for acceptance by the city for any future petition.

Then the third issue deals with a Council member being defeated at the ballot only to have the sitting council play musical chairs and re-appoint the loser.

If the charter amendments were in place in 1999 our city would have been a much different place today.

Well then...

Since you obviously support the changes proposed, please remember who proposed and supported these changes when making your choices in November. These ammendments will not go easily into the polls. There will be much contention between old and new council members because this further serves to undermine their old way of conducting business.
