Dodged a bullet??

The ship has a hole in it.....

Perhaps the reaction you hear from the township residents is precisely what you are describing, however it is the current reflection of the city. Many township residents went to council meeting to oppose growth - the growth that was zoned by the last council. They were not welcome, came anyway, spoke anyway - worked against the growth anyway.

As a township resident I can see both sides of the issue. Intellectually, you can make an argument if all things were equal it makes sense for the community to be governed by one body. It keeps the focus on the community where it belongs instead of the we/they we have all heard too many times. However, all things are NOT equal. The city has a tremendous amount of debt - many percentage points higher than larger cities in Ohio if you compare. Do the township residents want to take this on ?? Not really - can you blame us? We had no voice then, but people want our tax dollars to bail them out now. I think the only way a merger could ever be conceived is if the debt structure could be grandfathered so new city residents only paid for debt they had a say in creating.
